Artificial worlds & morality August 04 2008 19:18 by: Vincent Wiegel

Moral encounters in the eWorld: multi-agent simulation and human – artificial agent interaction. The virtual and the physical world are already strongly intertwined. The virtual world of gaming and simulation offers a great platform for investigating the interaction between the virtual and physical world, and the interaction between agents.

Systems often are highly complex sets of components, designed and manufactured by various companies and organizations, with many actors managing part of the total system. In these settings questions arise regarding the decision-making and moral responsibility. Simulation & gaming are well suited to investigate a) joint decision-making & responsibility and b) communication. These are both value-laden.

This group focuses on the research on laboratories for philosophical research: SophoLabs. There are two different kind of labs. One, a ‘living lab’ where the artificial – human agent interactions can be investigated. Two, a electronic lab where the interaction between artificial agents can be investigated.
