Moral impact of IT August 04 2008 19:18 by: Vincent Wiegel

In this track the design of ICT services, architectures and information systems is conducted from the perspective of societal and user values. Values like user autonomy, transparency, privacy and security must be expressed in ICT services and systems.

IT provides human actors with new forms of interaction. Valuable information is disseminated more easily, more readily accessible. It can, however, also constrain our behaviour. IT governance structures can clash with established local practices of communities in developing countries; information collected by internet providers can reveal more about web-shoppers than they think acceptable; attempts to unify and collate information on citizens held by various governmental organizations will profoundly impact the way these organizations function, as well as their relationship with citizens; etc. How IT, its architecture, its mode of implementation, its functions, etc. enable and restrict companies, communities, organizations is subject of this research track.
